Insurance Claims & Storm Damage Disclosure

TL;DR – Insurance Claims & Storm Damage
Hail damage is generally a home insurance matter, and the claim is between you and your insurer. Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd. is a roofing contractor, not a licensed insurance adjuster: we don't negotiate, settle or put a value on your claim, we never pay, rebate or absorb your deductible, and we don't promise what your insurer will pay or that an impact-rated roof will lower your premium. No roof is hail-proof: the Interlock® Diamond, Shingle and Slate, Shake and Tile panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact listing, but large hail can still dent them, the labour warranty excludes hail and wind-storm damage, and the material warranty excludes hail larger than 38 mm (1.5 in). If you sign at home, Alberta's Consumer Protection Act lets you cancel up to 10 days after you receive your copy of the contract.
1. After a Hailstorm: Your Claim, Your Insurer
According to the Insurance Bureau of Canada, standard home insurance policies cover damage caused by hail or wind. Your insurer and its adjuster decide what your claim covers and pays; the insurance contract is between you and your insurer. Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd. installs Interlock® roofing in Alberta. Our part is the roofing: an honest assessment of the roof, a written scope of work and a fixed written price.
What to do after a hailstorm:
- Stay off the roof. When it is safe, photograph the damage you can see from the ground — dented vents, eavestroughs, siding, windows and vehicles — before anything is moved or cleaned up.
- Report the damage to your insurer or broker as soon as you can, with complete and accurate details.
- Keep the receipts for any emergency repair, such as a tarp over a leak, and for cleanup.
- Let your insurer's adjuster inspect and write up the damage before the old roof comes off.
- Get written quotes from contractors you have checked, and sign only once you know what your insurer will pay.
With your permission, we will give you or your insurer the photographs, measurements, quote and product and warranty documents they ask for. The claim is always yours.
2. We Never Pay, Rebate, or Absorb Your Deductible
Your deductible is your responsibility under your insurance policy. Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd. never advertises, promises or agrees to pay, waive, rebate, offset or absorb any part of an insurance deductible, and never offers cash, gifts, upgrades or “free” work as an inducement tied to an insurance claim. We never raise a price to cover a deductible.
If any contractor offers to “take care of your deductible”, treat it as a warning sign: the cost is usually being hidden somewhere in the price billed to your insurer.
3. We Are Not Insurance Adjusters
We are a roofing contractor. We are not an insurance adjuster or a public adjuster. Alberta legislation requires every independent adjuster to hold an insurance adjuster certificate of authority to act as an adjuster in Alberta, and the Alberta Insurance Council administers that licensing. We hold no such certificate, so we cannot and do not act as your adjuster. We do not interpret your policy, tell you what your claim is worth, negotiate or settle your claim, or represent you in dealings with your insurer, and we do not offer or advertise any claim-negotiation service.
What we can provide, with your permission, is factual support: photographs, measurements, a written description of the damage we found, a written quote, and the documents insurers commonly ask for — the UL 2218 Class 4 listing information for the aluminum panels and both warranty documents. If your insurer asks us about those materials, we will answer factually.
If you disagree with how your insurer has valued your claim, your policy describes the options open to you; your broker or insurer can explain them. That is not something we can decide or negotiate for you.
4. No Promises About Claims, Premiums or “Hail-Proof” Roofs
We do not promise that your insurer will approve a claim, pay for a new roof, or pay for an upgrade from your existing roofing to an Interlock® roof. If you want to put a hail settlement toward an Interlock roof and pay the difference yourself, ask your insurer whether your policy allows it before you sign anything. We give you a fixed price in writing that you can share with them.
We do not promise that an impact-rated roof will lower your insurance premium or earn a discount. Each insurer sets its own rates and rules, and terms change; ask yours, and get the answer in writing.
No roof is hail-proof, and we do not describe any roof that way. The Interlock® Diamond, Shingle and Slate, Shake and Tile aluminum panel families are listed to UL 2218 Class 4, the highest class in that impact test, by Intertek under Delta Building Products; the listing covers those panel families only. In the Class 4 test a 51 mm (2 in) steel ball is dropped from 6.1 m (20 ft) onto the panel, and the panel must not crack or rupture. Class 4 is about the panel not cracking or rupturing on impact; it does not mean the panel cannot dent. Large hail can dent any metal roof.
5. Hail, Wind and Your Roof Warranties
Two separate warranties cover an Interlock® roof installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd., and neither one is storm insurance.
- Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty — given by the manufacturer, Interlock Roofing Ltd. Its exclusions include damage from severe weather and Acts of God; hail larger than 38 mm (1.5 in); and normal wear, including minor scratches and dents. Wind resistance is warranted to 193 km/h (120 mph) when the roof is installed to manufacturer specification.
- 10 Year Limited Labour Warranty — given by Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd. for the installation. It covers workmanship only and excludes, among other things, hail damage, wind storms, hurricane-force winds, impact of foreign objects, lightning, fire, flood, ice damming, snow and ice shedding, and earthquake or other Acts of God.
Damage from hail, wind or falling objects is therefore generally a home insurance matter, not a warranty claim. Read both warranty documents, and how your policy treats roof damage (including cosmetic damage such as dents), before you buy. If anything here differs from the warranty documents, the warranty documents control.
6. Honest Inspections — and No Insurance Fraud
Our inspections report what is actually on your roof and nothing more. We photograph and document damage as we find it; we never create, exaggerate or stage damage; and we do not go onto your roof without your permission. If your roof does not need replacing, we will tell you so.
Knowingly inflating a claim, hiding a deductible arrangement, or billing an insurer for work that was not done is insurance fraud. We do not take part in it, and our team is expected to refuse it. If anyone presenting themselves as Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd. or as an Interlock dealer offers to cover your deductible or inflate your claim, please report it to policies@interlockgroup.com.
7. Your Cancellation Rights in Alberta
When a written contract is solicited, agreed to or signed at your home, or anywhere else away from the contractor's normal place of business, Alberta's Consumer Protection Act lets you cancel it up to 10 days after you receive your copy. You may also be able to cancel without penalty within one year if a business used an unfair practice. Our Cancellation & Refund Policy explains how to cancel, your contract states the period, and you keep every right Alberta's consumer protection laws give you.
Alberta also requires a business that asks for payment before work starts, or before the work is finished, to be licensed as a prepaid contracting business. After a hailstorm, ask any contractor — including us — for that licence before you pay a deposit, and be cautious of anyone who comes to your door after a storm asking for money up front.
For insurance-funded work: wait until your insurer has confirmed in writing what it will pay before you sign a contract that depends on that payment, and keep a copy of everything you sign.
